A Checklist for Before and After You’ve Moved

Please take advantage of our moving tips and moving advice. Print this page and carry it with you before and several days after the move. Moving tips that may seem obvious can be easily over looked. Take our moving advice and utilize this checklist before and after you have moved.

Packing – put heavy items in small boxes and lighter items in larger boxes, pack plates and records vertically, irreplaceable items and memories take with you in your car, unscrew light bulbs from lamps before packing, designate one drawer of a dresser for sheets and towels to avoid rummage through boxes at the first night you arrive.

Keep Organized – make notes of your shipment registration numbers and keep with you in case you need to call the mover, keep a current phone book with you, give out your cell phone number and an alternate phone number to the moving company foreman.

Preparing to leave your current house – remember to clean out the refrigerator, place backing soda in the refrigerator to keep interior smelling fresh.

Pets and Plants – keep pets calm and away on the moving day by arranging for a friend to watch them, if you are moving plants in your car, keep leaves from resting against the windows so the leaves don’t scorch.

Prepare for your first night in the new home – designate one drawer for sheets and towels when packing so you can find easily when you get to new home, remember to pack bare necessities and keep with you in your vehicle so you can find easily (toilet paper, toiletries, snacks, coffee pot, coffee supplies, small tool set).
